on the Peloponnes. The Macedonians would invite as grand gesture also Greeks from the South, stressing the fact that this loacation near Mt. Olympus seemed to be more appropriate than Olympia. It is also interesting that Alexander the Great did his sacrifices not in famous Delphi

but in Dion, before starting his conquests in Asia.
Sogar einige olympische Spiele wurden hier organisiert, zu denen die Makedonier mit großer Geste auch die Südgriechen einluden: nicht ohne den Hinweis darauf, dass die Olympiaden am Olymp wohl authentischer seien als im fernen Olympia. Und Alexander opferte nicht in Delphi, sondern hier in Dion den Göttern, bevor er nach Asien aufbrach.
