The Abbey of Saint Martin du Canigou 42.528208,2.3987996 is located on the slopes of Pic du Canigou.

It can be reached on foot in about one hour, or via a very narow and dangerous looking dirt road that can only be managed by Jeeps and experienced drivers.

In a niche, a sculpture of Saint Martin is shown (in the pichture partially in shadow) enacting the best known legend of his life: He once cut his cloak in half to share it with a beggar during a snowstorm, to save the beggar from dying from the cold.

That night he dreamed that Jesus was wearing the half-cloak. Martin heard Jesus say to the angels, "Here is Martin, the Roman soldier who is not baptised; he has clothed me."
