Who wants to experience the Andes between the Bolivian-Chilean border and the Salar de Uyuni, has to do without a lot of things. Endless rides on bumpy roads across 5000 m high passes, as well as very basic, uncomfortable and freezing cold hostels - this does not sound like a dream vacation. During the night, the thermometer drops below zero even in the summer. Despite several blankets, the cold penetrates every fibre of the body - but: all these troubles are rewarded by an indescribable landscape. Adventurous stone formations, colourful lagoons, mud pools and geyser fields along with wide horizons in a crystal-clear air - one truly feels shifted into an extraterrestrial landscape.
Wer die Anden zwischen der bolivianisch-chilenischen Grenze und dem Salar de Uyuni erleben möchte, muß auf einiges verzichten. Endlose Fahrten auf holprigen Pisten über 5000 m hohe Pässe, dazu einfachste, ungemütliche und eiskalte Herbergen – das klingt nicht nach Traumurlaub. In der Nacht sinkt das Thermometer selbst im Sommer unter den Gefrierpunkt. Trotz einiger Decken durchdringt die Kälte jede Faser des Körpers – aber: all die Mühen werden durch eine unbeschreibliche Landschaft entlohnt. Abenteuerliche Steinformationen, bunte Lagunen, Schlammtümpel und Geysirfelder, dazu weite Horizonte in einer kristallklaren Luft – man fühlt sich wahrlich in eine außerirdische Landschaft versetzt.
