Estancia Harberton Estancia Harberton , the oldest farm in Tierra del Fuego was founded by Thomas Bridges in 1886. The name Bridges was given to the orphan as he was found on a bridge in England. He was adopted by an Anglican missionary and travelled with him first to the Falkland Islands and then on to Tierra del Fuego where he founded the Anglican Mission at Ushuaia. In 1886 he received citizenship and he was deeded land 60km east of Ushuaia. The farm was the first productive enterprise in Tierra del Fuego. A great-grandson of Thomas Bridges nowadays manages the Estancia Harberton and lives there with his family, some of them members of the sixth generation. The farm can be visited from October to March. Its location is absolutely fantastic, but until the completion of the road leading to it from Ushuaia it was nearly a day trip away.

Die Estancia Harberton Estancia Harberton , der älteste Bauernhof in Feuerland, wurde von Thomas Bridges in 1886 gegründet. Der Name Bridges wurde dem Waisenkind gegeben, da es auf einer Brücke (Bridge) in England gefunden wurde. Er wurde von einem anglikanischen Missionar adoptiert und reiste mit diesem zuerst auf die Falklandinseln und dann weiter nach Feuerland wo er eine anglikanische Mission in Ushuaia gründete. In 1886 erhielt er die Staatsbürgerschaft und es wurde ihm Land, 60km östlich von Ushuaia, geschenkt. Der Bauernhof war das erste produktive Unternehmen in Feuerland. Ein Urenkel von Thomas Bridges leitet heute die Estancia Harberton und lebt dort mit seiner Familie, einige von ihnen schon in der sechsten Generation. Der Bauernhof kann von Oktober bis März besucht werden. Die Lage ist absolut toll, allerdings war er bis zum Bau der Straße fast eine Tagesreise von Ushuaia entfernt.
